how are you doing today?
This is my first experience writing blog! Cool, could you believe that this time would arrive to me?
You, that may never meet me, now have just a chance to here about how I am, what I do and what I think. I's seems incredible!
I'm taking an English class, here at Memphis, the city of Elvis but also the city of M. Luther King.
This is an interesting place there you can met people with different cultures but also a place with lot of challenges. I think that there is still a big problem of integration and segregation. You can see groups people that are not welcome in others; latinos, black or whites. There is a question of codes that you need to know before you can try to be accept or at least have an opportunity to be close to others different on you.
Even if a lot of discussion and fainting has been taked place here to break the walls between the different race, I see that there are sill a lot of racism and discrimination.
There is a lot to do and there is a responsibility of each one of us to do something; you and me have to do a small part, accepting and loving the persons that are around us not mather how they look like.
This is the first place I live in USA; I enjoy to go downtown Memphis and specially walk beside the Mississippi river, listening to the music of the south; blues, jazz or gospel.
There is a lot I have learned since I arrived; maybe the biggest challenges has been to understand the "southern accent" :), and look for a job in a new country with a new language in the middle of the biggest American crisis.
But I got it!
So, do your best, not give up and think possitive!!!
Have fun!

You are absolutely right about the "racial tension" in Memphis. I think it's probably one of the first things people notice when they live here for any period of time. You have a good attitude though. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, despite the negative aspects. ;)
